Violet May 2024 Update

Violet was first seen in Port Phillip in 2015 and has been seen most years since. Fun fact, Violet is actually named after an important supporter of the Dolphin Research Institute!

In early 2020, she became a first-time mum and spent the next one and a half years raising her young calf in the protected waters of the Bay (below).

We last saw Violet on a survey in November of 2022, excitedly feeding on baitfish alongside other common dolphins and diving gannets (below).

Although Violet has not been seen during recent surveys, there is no need to fret. It is not unusual for intervals between sightings to span several months or even years. After all, the dolphins in Port Phillip are wild and can come and go as they please.

We hope to see Violet again soon on future surveys and will update you when we do.
