Adopt a dolphin

DD is one of Port Phillip’s common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) and one of the few males we know in this community.

He was born in 2012 to a mother we call Square Notch.  In 2013, DD suffered an injury to his dorsal fin, possibly from a boat propeller. Thanks to his unique dorsal fin, DD is very easy to identify during surveys.

DD is now regularly sighted with other dolphins and doesn’t seem to be at all affected by his “damaged dorsal” fin, which is how he got the name “DD”.

This image was taken in December 2021, and shows the unique permanent scarring left from the injury to DD’s dorsal fin after it had finished healing.
