Report Sightings Page
Report sightings in REAL TIME or LATER and upload images and videos through this form. You will help with the conservation of these animals in Victorian Waters. The Two Bays Whale Project validates all sightings so that only reliable data are used for analysis.

Bottlenose Dolphin
Colour – dark to light grey with a pale belly
Beak – short and rounded
Dorsal fin – Mostly curved
Maximum length – 2.7 metres in the bay, up to 3.8 metres offshore.
Common Dolphin
Colour – Dark grey dorsally with a cream to light grey hourglass patterning on the flank.
Beak – long and slender
Dorsal fin – More triangular than bottlenose dolphin, may have shades of cream into dark grey
Maximum length – Approximately 2.5 metres

Humpback Whale
Colour - dark grey with areas of white on the flank and underside
Dorsal fin - located 2/3 of the way long the body
Pectoral fins – very long, approximately 1/3 of body length
Maximum length – 14 – 16 metres
Southern Right Whale
Colour – black with raised patches of yellow/cream around head
Dorsal fin – absent
Pectoral fins – large square shaped
Maximum length – 17 metres
Killer Whale
Colour – predominantly black with a white belly and striking white patch above the eye.
Grey saddle behind the dorsal fin.
Dorsal fin – Tall in males (upto 2 metres), smaller and curved in adult females.
Maximum length – 7 – 8 metres (Australian killer whales)
