The Island Whale Festival was held during the school holidays on Phillip Island from 7 – 9 July. Local community members and visitors enjoyed a range of free or low cost activities that not only entertained, but also educated us all on the importance of environmental awareness.

DRI was proud to be associated again this year with the Festival. Our Researchers and Educators spent the weekend on Phillip Island, talking about DRI’s research and citizen science projects, helping people to spot the tell-tale signs of whales cruising along the coast from the many whale lookouts, and we even encouraged some small (and not so small) people to venture inside our very own inflatable whale!

Thanks to our partners for the success of the Weekend; Wildlife Coast Cruises, Phillip Island Nature Parks , Destination Phillip Island and the Bass Coast Shire Council – and to all the whales that visited that weekend!
