Melbourne Girls’ College Science Teacher and Sustainability Educator Paula McIntosh was very concerned about plastic waste in response to Premier Daniel Andrews’s recent announcement that Victorian School Students will be able to access free pads and tampons from school.
Paula says “…most sanitary items are between 6 and 90% plastic, which is terrible for the environment our young people will inherit…..tampons have a polyester veil and are composed of approximately 6% plastic. Sanitary pads are made up of 90% plastic”.
Paula wants Daniel Andrews to commit to providing a choice of sustainable sanitary items for our young people in schools.
Paula we are so inspired by your passion to reduce plastic waste in our schools and to provide young people with sustainable choices that help lead them down the life-long path of choosing more environmentally friendly products!
