Do you want to become a citizen scientist and help Care for Our Bays? It’s easy. Tell us when and where you see dolphins or whales, and your sighting will go into our database. Do it by yourself, or join a group like DRI’s Community Dolphin Monitoring Project.
From our 20+ year database, we can look back at what dolphins and whales have been doing and where – and compare it to today’s sightings. In the long term, this is vital for the current and future management of the environment and health of dolphins and whales.
You can easily report your sighting via our website here, or phone us on 03 5979 7100. If you know the precise area – great!- but a general description is fine too. For example, ‘3-5 dolphins off Olivers Hill, Frankston, heading towards Melbourne’ or ‘a humpback whale near Cowes jetty’ are both useful reports.
Remember; don’t approach the dolphins – let them come to you, and Happy Sighting!
All sightings are valued. We will add you to our mailing list so you receive the latest news of what DRI is up to. You can un-subscribe at any time, and we do not share your information.
