The Community Dolphin Monitoring Project is a research initiative of the DRI that has been running since 2014. It is ‘citizen science’ with a twist. Volunteer ‘spotters’ of dolphins gather on the second Sunday of the month and record data at regular intervals over four hours at three or four designated sites around the Mornington area. This data provides a ‘snap shot’ of what is happening in this area regarding dolphin presence and numbers, and vessel prevalence.
There is a waiting-list for ‘spotters’. Each volunteer goes through training; usually at our centre in Hastings. If you are interested, please contact us here.
