To honour World Environment Week 2021, the Education Team hosted a daily ‘ i sea i chat’ with a range of inspiring people who dedicated their lives to working and volunteering in the environmental conservation fields! Our lucky Ambassadors were treated to a presentation by our guest speakers, and then had a ball during the Q&A session where they peppered our speakers with questions about their work, their passion for the marine environment, and their amazing conservation journeys! The first presenter was Heidi Tait, the cofounder of the Tangaroa Blue Foundation which is an Australia-wide not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the removal and prevention of marine debris. The second presenter was 14-year-old eco-warrior Shalise Leesfield founder of Shalise’s Ocean Support. We then heard from Fam Charko who is a Marine biologist, and the Volunteers Coordinator at the Port Phillip EcoCentre, and finally Lucy Skelton, founder of the Student Voice Network for students, by students aged 12–25 who take action on social justice and or environmental issues. This is an amazing opportunity for our Ambassadors to learn about real-world experiences and for many these sessions helped them to not only have a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a marine conservationist, but they were also able to sample different job experiences to help shape their own conservation journeys! We are incredibly grateful to our Council partners, ISIC coordinators, and parents/carers for making this program possible.

Did you miss out on an ISEAICHAT session? Do not fear!  Mandy has emailed all the recordings to your folks!
